Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to create a TTRPG set within the series' apocalyptic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," states an announcement.
Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and several deluxe editions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the nation into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. This is where the players enter the story.
Development on the game has been underway for approximately three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a preorder system to access a broader audience, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing is slated to begin right after the campaign, with shipping expected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules reveals it uses 10-sided dice exclusively through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic approach. Players leverage abilities to assemble a handful of dice, usually between one and five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, participants choose a single “result die” from the group.
- This die is then compared against a set challenge number.
- Achieving a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.
Engagements Emphasize Positioning and Awareness
Fights stress positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This system is designed to favor coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound Mechanic
The way injuries is tracked adds a interesting thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by lowering the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an agent collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
- They may still move and take limited actions, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any player in this state must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A publicly available introductory rulebook is promised soon. It contains a pre-made introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
