This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
