The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.
Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
