Star Denies Anti-Vaxxer Views Following Lending His Voice To Contentious Covid Film
Liam Neeson has provided his vocal talents to a new documentary that casts doubt on the safety of vaccinations and commends one-time health official RFK Jr.
The Documentary's Disputed Origins
Called "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is adapted from a bestselling book co-authored by a controversial scientist, who became famous during the global outbreak for assertions that the virus was linked to a faulty batch of the influenza shot.
The book's collaborator, a producer, has penned books with far-right radio host Alex Jones. Heckenlively took to social media hailing Neeson's participation in the documentary.
A Firm Statement
The team of the actor have provided a comment firmly refuting claims that he holds anti-vax beliefs.
"Many understand that unethical practices can exist within the pharmaceutical industry, but that must not be equated to opposition to vaccines," the comment states. "Liam is not, and remains not, anti-vax. His considerable work with the UN children's agency highlights his enduring support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
The response noted that the star did not shape the documentary's editorial content and that inquiries about its assertions should be directed to the creators.
Major Claims Featured in the Feature
In the film, the script read by Neeson features several strong statements:
- It claims that pro-immunization voices have called for "blind obedience" to public institutions.
- It posits that "research has become dangerously influenced by politics."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is shown claiming, "The big problem with vaccines is that they simply are not adequately tested."
- It also criticizes pandemic restrictions, claiming they caused severe distress that cost thousands of lives.
- Regarding pandemic shots, it mentions a perspective that they were "hurriedly approved" and seen as "risky trials."
Historical Context and Recent Issues
The film also references a 2004 BBC documentary about HIV drug testing on children, which was subsequently the topic of a formal apology by the network for editorial breaches.
In recent weeks, RFK Jr directed the Centers for Disease Control to change its long-held position that there is no link between immunizations and autism. This claim is also referenced in the film, contrary to a new report from the WHO reiterating no such link has been found.
A Past Position of Advocacy
Contrasting the film's narrative, Neeson has formerly shown firm endorsement for vaccines in his capacity as a charity ambassador.
In 2022, he described vaccines as "an extraordinary triumph," stating that "The debate about vaccines in the past few years has overlooked how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in history."
The film finishes with Neeson's narration saying, "This isn't the end of our story. It is the beginning of a fresh chapter."
