Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
