An individual who spiked candy with sedative and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his family member alerted the police about his worries.

She said the man continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.

Mrs Prior stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.

She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
