A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
