Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their first World Series following the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
